We use a combination of single and double sit on top kayaks. The sit on top kayak is a sea kayak that doesn’t have a cockpit, instead it has a shaped deck that you sit on. These kayaks are literally unsinkable due to the completely enclosed design of their hulls, so they never capsize. The huge advantage of using this type of kayak is that the paddler does not feel enclosed, they are generally wider, therefore more stable therefore making them easier for beginners to use. If you decide to jump in for a swim or snorkel they are much more practical to get back into while out at sea. The other advantage of the sit on top kayaks are that the shallow hull also allows us to paddle closer to the coast line and float over underwater rock formations. The one disadvantage is that are generally slower than kayaking in a sit inside kayak, but as we are offering a relaxingly active holiday experience, they are the perfect piece of equipment!
You do not require any kayaking experience to take part in our kayaking holiday. We are here to help you, show you the basics and guide you on your kayak trip. The Adriatic is the perfect sea kayaking playground and we look forward to paddling with you.
We have no weekly schedule of the kayaking tours that we go on with our guests. We like to be flexible and make the most out of each day, looking at the weather, how far we might want to go and our level of experience as a group. We like to offer daily adventures that we believe make the most out of each day and we also love create kayaking memories with our guests.
We will help you learn a new skill if you are kayaking for the first time, Vis Island is the perfect place to fall in love the paddling on the sea. For experienced sea kayakers, then we will make sure you explore as much of the coast as possible!
These are some of our favourite paddles that we would like to share with you.......
After breakfast and making a picnic for our lunch, we load the kayaks onto the Landrover Defender and head to Komiža. Launching the kayaks in Komiža, we head towards Kamenice beach and then follow the coast line to the isolated Velo žalo beach. The beach is the perfect place to swim, snorkel and have our picnic lunch. The water is stunning and we love to spend as much time as possible being in these crystal clear seas. On the way to the beach, we pass high limestone rock formations and small inlets. If we are really lucky we will possibly sight an Eleonora Falcon, which is known to nest only on the outer islands Croatian island, Vis in particular.
To avoid the crowds and make the most of the day for our other favorite kayak trip we like to start early. We will paddle from our harbor in Rukavac and head south west towards Stiniva bay. The most famous bay of Vis Island, Stiniva bay has been a protected Croatian Natural Monument since 1967. Stiniva is enclosed by two huge cliffs, that have a narrow entrance that we can enter into with the kayaks. Once arriving to the bay we have time to swim, snorkel, rock climb and even cliff jump before heading towards home via Ruda bay. Ruda bay is only a ten minute walk from our base in Rukavac, but we love to take the kayaks to the bay for some more snorkeling. This idyllic inlet, with one beach and a few old stone houses belonging to local fishermen is a family favourite.
Looking forward to sharing the Adriatic with you and showing you the best that Vis Island has to offer.
